Irish Dolls
We are
very proud to introduce our latest Irish product to you.
This beautiful selection of collector ceramic and porcelain dolls
are totally handcrafted in Ireland.
We
would like to explain to you exactly how these dolls are made,
dressed, labelled and pacakaged.
How
the Dolls are Made
The
dolls are designed by Marie Enright and her team of local craft
workers in Co. Limerick. Marie has been designing and
handcrafting these dolls since 1994. All dolls are made from
scratch in Ireland using totally Irish products from the ceramic and
porcelain hands and feet to the packaging which the dolls come in.
The
head, hands and feet are made from various moulds. The moulds
are poured with liquid clay, after taking the pieces out after three
hours they pieces are then left to dry for three to five days
(depending on weather). The dolls are then dusted, buffed and
edges are smoothed. When completely dry they are fired in
kilns, next day after cooling they are buffed and painted. The
painting takes roughly three days as the colours are applied
separately and left to dry.
How
the Dolls are Dressed
Tweeds
used on the dolls are spun by weavers from Donegal to Kerry.
A lot of the dolls wear Aran sweaters and cardigans these are all
hand knitted by craft workers on Maries team. Irish Linen is
used for all dolls pantaloons and underwear. Jewelry on the dolls is
all made in Co. Limerick. Rosary beads on the nuns are made in
Dublin.
A lot
of the dolls come with accessories such as bags - bags are all
hand made/knitted. Katie comes with ceramic pototates
all hand made also.
How
the Dolls are
Labelled
As all
dolls are part of a collection, each doll is given a tag attached to
their wrist with a ribbon with the dolls name, the number in the
collection and are signed by Marie.
How
the Dolls are Packaged
The
dolls packaging is also all made in Ireland. A green cushion
is put in every box with a filling of woodshavings (dredged to
remove dirt). The dolls are then laid on top of this cushion.
The dolls come in a lovely green hard cardboard box which is make in
Co. Clare. Bubble Wrap is on small parts of the doll to
protect it. Also the box is completely bubble wrapped to
ensure a safe trip.
